Freshman Want Change
The freshman council of the University of Colorado is currently undertaking a broad initiative to change the social culture that exists on and off campus. With already one gathering under their belt, the council is planning more events building up to the January release of their awareness bracelets. The campaign is seeking to educate students about alcohol and other substances at the University of Colorado and at schools across the nation.
A mix of students and concerned citizens attended the first gathering on Nov. 17th. Roughly 150 people rallied around the statement “THIS IS MY RESPONSE,” while freshmen proudly wore T-shirts with the slogan on the front and the keyword ‘WE’ on the back.
Anticipation is building with the recent release of the second statement, “THE CHANGE IS NOW.” The associated key word is ‘HAVE’. The date for the second rally is tentatively set for January. Officials close to the campaign are keeping a tight lid on the information. This website will update readers on dates and events related to the wristband campaign as they become available.
G.O.R.D. hopes everyone takes an active role in supporting this change. It is a positive step in changing the ethics on campus. In the coming weeks and month, watch for the second slogan chalked across campus and make room on your wrist to sport your support.
